Bequests
Leave a Gift, Leave a Legacy
Generations of Ballarat Grammar families and students have benefited from the generosity of people who have bequeathed gifts to the School or the Ballarat Grammar Foundation. These gifts have significantly impacted the lives of Grammarians through scholarships, the development of teaching and learning facilities, and supporting the School’s staff and programs.
Bequests may take several forms, including providing a scholarship or a particular study area, or allocated at the School's discretion. A bequest can include personal assets such as property, fixed sums or a percentage of an estate.
Leaving a gift in your will can be a meaningful way of saying thank you, honouring a loved one, investing in the future, or providing a Ballarat Grammar education to someone who may otherwise not be able to join our community.
Your Will, Your Wording
We recommend that you seek independent legal and financial advice on the structure of your will or when adding a Codicil to your will and that you inform your family of your intentions.
You can direct your gift according to your wishes and we will be pleased to discuss your intentions with you.
Gifts may be:
- A fixed amount or percentage of your estate
- A specific item, such as artwork or property
- Directed to a purpose you care about (e.g., scholarships, buildings)
- Named in honour of a loved one or family
- Given anonymously, if you prefer
Manifold Circle
To acknowledge the outstanding support our School has received from the Manifold family over several generations, the Ballarat Grammar Foundation has formed the Manifold Circle, an association recognising those who have remembered the School in their will.
When you inform us about your decision to bequeath a gift to Ballarat Grammar, we will invite you to join fellow friends and supporters as a member of the Manifold Circle.
As a member, you will receive a Manifold pin signifying your association and acknowledging your support. You will also receive VIP invitations to special events and activities throughout the year.

FAQs
What is the difference between a bequest and a gift in a Will?
There is no difference between a bequest and a gift in a Will. A Will is a legal document that states your wishes when it comes to dispersing your estate after your death. We encourage you to first provide for your family and friends, and to discuss with them your desire to leave something for Ballarat Grammar.
What is a Legacy Gift?
A legacy gift is made in memory of someone, typically by their friends or family. This may be by way of establishing a Scholarship or award in that person’s name. Sometimes, families will request at a funeral that attendees, in lieu of flowers, donate to a charity that was of importance to their loved one. The Ballarat Grammar Foundation Scholarship Fund for Scholarships, and the Building Fund are both charities for the purposes of providing tax-deductible donations.
How do I make a bequest/gift in a Will?
Your bequest is an important, personal decision that should be discussed with your family and solicitor. You can make this significant contribution to Ballarat Grammar by bequeathing a percentage of your estate, a nominated sum of money, or other property or assets. You have the option to either make a bequest that is allocated at the Principal’s discretion, or to specify a particular purpose or allocation of your choosing, such as the Scholarship Program or Building Fund.
Who can make a bequest/gift in will/legacy gift?
Who can make a bequest/gift in will/ legacy gift? Anyone of any age is welcome to make a bequest. Your consideration of the future of Ballarat Grammar is greatly appreciated.
Do I have to inform Ballarat Grammar in advance of my bequest?
We respect your preferences and understand that you may wish to keep your bequest private. You are under no obligation to inform us of your intentions. However, if you choose to share this information with the School, we would be honoured to welcome you as a member of the Manifold Circle. Membership allows us to acknowledge your commitment during your lifetime and to invite you as a special guest to School events, where you can connect with like-minded donors and members of our community.
